Get involved in our local ‘Engineering your Future’ STEM engagement program

Our NSW and Canberra school student engagement team has been working hard to prepare for the third year of our online engagement program Engineering your Future.

The program kicks off on 30 August and is expected to reach around 140 school students per event. The events will take place fortnightly until 22 November.

This years’ series QUICK CHATS: 7 Undergrads, 7 Engineers, 7 Minutes will take the program to a new level. It is a school and student-led live video chat series featuring 14 engineers and undergraduates chatting with seven groups of 20 school students on rotation, similar to a speed dating evening.

These sessions are supported by our Biomedical and Mechanical Colleges, Young Engineers and Women in Engineering groups, industry supporters and dozens of engineering students. In each session we aim to answer the questions:

  • What is engineering?
  • What type of engineer do you want to be?
  • Which university?

The series coincides with the Engineers Australia brand campaign, Engineering: Making Life Happen, and aims to inspire students through a similar lens.

The series will run until 22 November and  feature discipline deep dives to investigate specialties within the major engineering disciplines including civil, electrical and mechanical. Depending on demand the first two sessions will be repeated as special events.

If you would like to be involved as an engineer or if you know a current engineering student, contact Caryn Morgan at [email protected]

Upcoming engagement events

30 August –  What ‘type’ of engineer do you want to be?

This event will look at the key engineering disciplines; aeronautical/aerospace, biomedical, chemical, civil and structural, electrical, mechanical/mechatronic, and software. Current engineering students and engineers will chat about their degree and what it is like to actually be an engineer in their field.

13 September –  Which university?

Alumni and current engineering students from seven of our 10 accredited universities will chat about life on campus and what makes their university unique, in relation to their field of engineering. They will cover things like student associations, student projects, placements, surviving first  year and  how the university led to their current engineering journeys.
