The Young Engineers Australia Case Competition and the Engineers Australia GradHack are encouraging student and graduate engineers to put their skills to the test to solve real engineering problems and showcase their skills to the wider profession. 

Registrations are now open for the Engineers Australia GradHack. Engineering graduates who register will be asked to challenge their theoretical and technical skills to ‘hack’ one of three engineering problems in just 48 hours.  

Young Engineers Australia National Committee Chair Nicole Brown says "GradHack gives graduates the chance to challenge themselves in a high-pressure situation, working efficiently with a team to develop an innovative and detailed solution to a real-world problem.  

“It is high intensity, challenging and most importantly, lots of fun."   

The ‘hackathon’ will see teams of two to five engineering graduates come together for the GradHack challenge weekend taking place 21–23 October.   

Three problems will be released to participating teams on Friday 21 October. Teams will then have the weekend to produce and submit a video submission of their engineered solutions for judging by industry greats. 

The winning team will be awarded with a $5000 cash voucher split between team members, and the runners up will be awarded with a $2000 cash voucher split between team members. 

The top 10 finalists will also be celebrated at live networking events held around Australia on Thursday 17 November.   

Running alongside GradHack, the Young Engineers Australia Case Competition challenged teams of engineering students to use their theoretical knowledge and skills to provide a solution for sustainable infrastructure, new or adapted.

• Pow(ENGR)puff Girls 

• MMAH 

• TMT 

• Malleable

The top five finalists will be quizzed by the finalist judging panel of professional engineers during the livestreamed finals event on 29 September, where the National Champions will be announced.
