Overview

In this session, speakers will explore why performance reviews or appraisals are essential for both individuals and organisations, and how those in their early career can build confidence when approaching their next review period. Attendees can gain a deeper understanding of key aspects of a performance review including developmental planning, goal setting, and company expectations, and learn strategies for addressing significant topics such as burnout, remuneration, and role transitions. 

The presentation will cover: 

  • What is a performance review/appraisal and why does it matter 
  • How to prepare for your performance review/appraisal 
  • Breaking down key performance indicators and assessing your performance to develop confidence 
  • Receiving constructive feedback and how to move forward with it 
  • Taking charge and driving your own career journey 
  • Determining your next steps for development and future internal or external opportunities.

Water Team Lead – NSW, Arup & Deputy Service Lead, Sydney Water Planning Partnership

Lesley-Anne is originally from Wales and migrated to Australia in 2017. She is the team leader for the Water Team in NSW at Arup and is the Deputy Service Lead for the Sydney Water Planning Partnership (SWPP) (Arup’s Representative). Lesley-Anne is a chartered environmentalist (UK) and scientist and through her current roles oversees a team of ~70 staff and is responsible for over 300 more embedded, ad hoc and co-located staff through the SWPP. The majority of these staff members are engineers working in the water sector, however also include environmental and technical specialists.  

She is an accomplished values led operational expert who has led teams in Australia and internationally and has significant experience dealing with Appraisals and Performance Reviews, including some of the hard conversations around promotions, performance improvement and remuneration. As an operational leader she loves helping people curate development plans and is keen to see people achieve their goals and objectives as they progress in their careers, irrespective of their chosen pathway, whether that be technical, client-led, operational or project leadership.
