Overview

 

The world and Australia have been transitioning their energy to a more sustainable zero carbon arrangement. Now is a time to reflect, leverage off lessons learnt, understand the challenges to work together to see how to “stay the course”, improve and accelerate the progress. The event will be an interactive workshop with participants in groups discussing key questions following each speaker. Firstly, reviewing outcomes of projects/initiatives that have been implemented and then what needs to be actioned next.

Learning outcomes

This event will workshop and draw current learnings from participants working in the energy transition area. It is envisioned what will be learnt are:

1. Challenges and lessons learnt from the energy transition to date.

2. What needs to happen in the industry and organisations to stay the course.

3. What you as an engineer need to be aware of to assist positive actions and outcomes.

About the speakers

Tony Wood
Tony Wood
Director of the Energy Program, Grattan Institute

Tony has been Director of the Energy Program since 2011 after 14 years working at Origin Energy in senior executive roles. From 2009 to 2014 he was also Program Director of Clean Energy Projects at the Clinton Foundation, advising governments in the Asia-Pacific region on effective deployment of large-scale, low-emission energy technologies. In 2008, he was seconded to provide an industry perspective to the first Garnaut climate change review. In January 2018, Tony was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia in recognition of his significant service to conservation and the environment, particularly in the areas of energy policy, climate change and sustainability. In October 2019, Tony was elected as a Fellow to the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering.

Ms. Lockwood boasts over 20 years of experience in law, government, and consulting, with a significant track record in board leadership across various sectors. Her expertise lies in infrastructure, economic development, and community engagement, providing invaluable insight into the complexities of large-scale projects amidst evolving social expectations. She offers strategic counsel to both government and private sectors, overseeing major infrastructure and planning initiatives such as the Future Fremantle Planning Committee and the Westport Taskforce, focusing on long-term freight and trade planning in Western Australia. Passionate about sustainability and resilience, Ms. Lockwood strives to create thriving cities and communities equipped to tackle climate change and digital disruption challenges. Educationally, she holds Bachelor's degrees in Law and Business (Environment) from Notre Dame University and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD). Currently, Ms. Lockwood serves as Chair of Infrastructure Western Australia, the Malka Foundation, and Airbridge. Additionally, she holds Non-Executive Director roles at the Child and Adolescent Health Service and serves as Deputy Chair of the Green Building Council of Australia.
