Overview

Resilient leadership is a topic of great interest and debate in the engineering and construction industry. In times of uncertainty, such as the recent change of government in NSW, rising interest rates, the threat of recession, and major project delays and deferrals, businesses are looking to their leaders for guidance. The way industry leaders respond to these circumstances will have a significant impact on the future health of the industry. This presentation will draw on Peter Wilkinson's recent book, "The Steel Ceiling: Achieving Sustainable Growth in Engineering and Construction," published by Wiley in 2023. Specifically, Peter will delve into the importance of resilient leadership to enable sustainable growth in the current environment.

Learning outcomes

In this presentation you will learn:

  1.  The “steel ceiling” engineering and construction industry behavioural blocker to greater workforce diversity, capability and innovation that must be overcome.
  2. The role of leadership in creating vision and values as context for organisational behaviour.
