Overview

Join us for an introduction to the M4 wave energy prototype by UWA, SMC Marine, and Everett Consulting.  You will have the opportunity to visit the construction yard and see the prototype being assembled. The event will take place from 16:00 to 17:00 at the MCB yard. Afterward, there will be a networking event at Due South (function room upstairs) starting at 17:15.

About the speakers

Manuel Grosshans
Manuel Grosshans
Project Manager, SMC Marine

Manuel is a highly experienced engineer who spent many years working on the design and construction of LNG and iron ore wharves in Africa, Europe and Western Australia. His expertise covers constructability reviews, heavy lifting and installation of piles, marinas and ocean outfalls. Manuel joined SMC in 2021 to grow the company in Western Australia and bring his construction experience back into tendering and planning of SMC’s new projects.

Managing Director and Founder, Everett Consulting NT

Rana Everett is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer with Engineers Australia, working on the M4 Wave Energy Generator Prototype project for welding compliance, involving welding quality control. Rana is Managing Director and Founder of Everett Consulting NT, operating from Albany, serving WA and the NT. In addition to welding compliance tasks, Rana's diverse engineering expertise covers vehicle modification certifications, crane engineering, site lifting equipment certifications and corrosion consulting.

Rana is involved in Engineers Australia Western Australia Regional Areas (Great Southern) events and is an active member on the Women in Engineering, Northern Division (NT) committee.

Wiebke Eberling, Centre Manager, Marine Energy Research Australia (MERA)

Wiebke has a background in the biological sciences and in career development. She has worked in research, education, community outreach, and science communication at several Australian universities for 15+ years. Since 2018, she has been the Centre Manager of Marine Energy Research Australia (MERA; formerly Wave Energy Research Centre), and she established the MERA headquarters at the Great Southern Marine Research Facility, part of the UWA regional campus in Albany. Wiebke is a Board Director at the Southern Ports Authority, a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the Hub Leader of the United Nations Regional Centre of Expertise in Education for Sustainable Development (WA), the Australian representative in the International Wave & Tidal Energy Research Sites group, and the previous Chair of the Great Southern Science Council. She co-leads MERA’s M4 Wave Energy Demonstration Project with a particular focus on WA Government liaison, community engagement, and Social Licence.
