Victoria’s deemed endorsed building engineers' registration deadline of 30 June 2026

Engineers whose Victorian Building Authority registration was transferred and were deemed to be a registered and endorsed building engineer on 1 July 2021, will need to be assessed to keep registration.

Registered building practitioner engineers (deemed engineers) have until 30 June 2026 to be  assessed and submit their assessment report with the Business Licencing Authority (BLA).

As an approved assessment entity, Engineers Australia is encouraging all deemed engineers to apply for assessment early. There is no grace period for those not registered by 30 June 2026.

How to get assessed:

Victorian engineering registration is a two-step process.

Step one: assessment

First you must apply for a competency assessment. This can be done with Engineers Australia.

A deemed engineer can be assessed in the area they are already registered and endorsed in, or can be assessed in another area of engineering if they want to add an area of engineering to their deemed registration and endorsement. The assessment will survey your qualifications and experience against the requirements of the Victorian Professional Engineers Act.

Deemed engineers must ask the assessment entity for a registration assessment and building industry endorsement assessment.

Step two: submit the assessment report to the BLA

Once you have obtained your outcome report, you can then lodge a copy online through the Consumer Affairs Victoria portal, myCAV.
