Engineers Australia's response for the Inquiry into the Climate Change Amendment (Duty Of Care And Intergenerational Equity) Bill 2023.

Engineers Australia acknowledges that addressing embedded and active emissions in the infrastructure sector is a pressing global challenge that requires immediate attention. We advocate that consideration needs to be given to the social, economic and environment costs of climate change on infrastructure as part of managing current and future impacts. This paper was produced through Engineers Australia’s member delivered policy and advocacy initiative.

In this submission, Engineers Australia provides feedback to Infrastructure Victoria in response to the State Infrastructure Strategy Update. Engineers Australia broadly supports the principles and objectives defined in the Strategy and has provided responses and advice.

• Advice on emissions reduction targets for Australia’s next Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement.
• Review of the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) Act 2011 (CFI Review).
• Review of the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007 (NGER Review).

Engineers Australia answers questions set by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water on the National Electric Vehicle Strategy.

As the peak body for the engineering profession, Engineers Australia welcomes Defence Strategic Review and encourages the implementation of reforms to strengthen and prepare the Australian Defence Force for the challenges ahead.

This paper clarifies the reasons why Engineers Australia does not support some of the existing provisions in the Design and Building Practitioners Act, proposed provisions in the Building Bill, and suggests an alternative way forward for the NSW Government.

This paper is intended to promote a nationwide discussion among existing rehabilitation engineers by suggesting a definition and scope of practice for the field in the Australian context. It is hoped that this discussion will help to foster a national identity and to provide a means of establishing broader connections within the field.

One of Engineers Australia’s key strategic priorities is to ‘create tomorrow’s engineers’, focusing the organisation on the future pipeline of engineers and building STEM skills capability within the workforce of tomorrow.

Engineers Australia believes that all engineering occupations that are currently on the SOL should be retained and this submission is prepared on that basis. The pro-forma on-line questionnaire unduly limits the interests of peak organisations like Engineers Australia in this regard.
