This document is intended to help our office bearers – and those considering volunteering – to understand our requirements and guide them as they work in partnership with other parts of the team to deliver our strategy and goals.

This annual report on Engineers Australia's performance informs of measurable progress against our strategic priorities, ensures transparent and responsible reporting for governance best practice, summarises the main activities and financial outcomes, and informs stakeholders, partners, media and government of our focus.
Professional standards framework
The Engineers Australia Professional Standards Framework is the integrated system of policies, processes and resources that guide and support engineers to practice engineering ethically, competently and responsibly. It applies throughout their careers from pre-qualification through to advanced practice and executive management and leadership and is designed to set, uphold and enhance standards that protect the public and build resilience and trust in the profession.
Spokespersons policy
In accordance with Engineers Australia’s mission to be recognised as a trusted source of information representing the profession, our spokespersons are expected to follow protocols to ensure consistency across our public messages and communications to protect our reputation and good standing.
Systems engineering
Systems engineering deals with the interdisciplinary approach and means to enable the realisation of successful systems.
Royal Charter and By-laws
Engineers Australia has operated under a Royal Charter since 1938. It also operates under a set of by-laws to ensure appropriate regulation and fair processes for governing boards and members alike.

Structural engineering deals with the understanding, prediction, and calculation of the stability, strength and rigidity of built structures.
Environmental Engineering
Environmental engineering uses the core knowledge of the environment to create innovative solutions for a sustainable future.
Code of ethics
The Code of Ethics and Guidelines on Professional Conduct defines the values and principles that shape the decisions made, and provides a framework for members of Engineers Australia to use when exercising their judgment, in engineering practice and as members of Engineers Australia.

Leadership and management deals with business management or administrative functions in an engineering environment.
Information, Telecommunications and Electronics Engineering
Information, Telecommunications and Electronics Engineering (ITEE) deals with scientific and engineering design to develop computer modelling tools, broadband capability, improve telecommunications systems, hardware and software, systems for media broadcasting and sound, and sophisticated electronics.
Heritage and conservation engineering
Heritage and conservation engineering deals with the application and adaptation of all the traditional disciplines of engineering, together with an understanding of the elementary scientific principles involved which might not be directly referenced in current practice procedures.
Subsea engineering
Subsea engineering deals with the design, construction, installation, operation, maintenance and decommissioning of equipment in the ocean or on the seabed.
Risk engineering
Risk engineering deals with the effective and efficient application of engineering methodologies and approaches at every step of the risk management cycle, across strategic, operational, financial or portfolio/program/project objectives.
